Where to Start?
Are you finding it hard to imagine what an art workshop might look like? You are not alone, to make things more tangible here are a number of possibilities to consider.
Below are a few of the workshops that we have designed for groups who are excited to get to work but would otherwise feel overwhelmed without a clear goal. We can cater to almost any wishes you may have, and you might be inspired to think of something else after reading these suggestions.
Option 1
A large canvas with a group composition borrowed from a famous picture is used as a framework for a group portrait. We have used Rembrandt’s Nightwatch as an example here, but it could just as well be based on the composition of the famous photograph of the members of the Dutch cabinet standing on the steps of the palace as they are sworn in. But there are plenty of famous group portraits to choose from. We will show how to turn a photograph of a colleague into a simple painting to replace the face of a person in the original group picture. A large canvas 100 x 140 cm, is big enough to make a great impression but just the right size for transporting by car. We will supply paper, pencils, acrylic paint, brushes, and a large high quality canvas. We assist, guide, and supervise in a friendly manner so that everyone has an enjoyable time and the art you create together is something to be proud of. This will result in a great piece of art for your organization, which means something to everyone and that can be hung in your premises as a reminder of a great event.
As the group prepares the individual portraits on paper first we guide everyone in turn as they insert a face or paint another part of the figures or background. A large canvas allows multiple people to work on it at the same time. It will not be a slavish copy of the original but drawing inspiration from an old master it will be a fun an exciting.

Option 2
Everyone in the group works on their own individual canvas or board, considering the time available we suggest that this be around 24 x 30 cm in size. We can prepare different ideas and themes in advance that are based on input from your organisation. For example, why are you holding the team building event? Is it to celebrate a particular landmark, part of a merger, a new management board etc. Your company logo might be something we could integrate and of course we can cater to other wishes as well. In order for the workshop to run smoothly we need to be as well prepared as possible and as many decisions that can be finalised in advance help significantly with this. Below are a few examples of striking styles that people who are not experienced artists can enjoy success with. These are posters that were created almost 100 years ago still hold their own today. These images can be painted or made as a collage.

Option 3
David Hockney has inspired many other artists throughout his long career. David Hockney did this in the nineteen eighties with polaroids. Below you can see just a few of his works from a series of polaroid collages. We have taken this look and reinvented it for a workshop setting.
A larger picture is divided up over smaller 10 x 10 cm canvasses. Everyone receives instructions on what colours they are to use to paint the different sections of the image. When the picture is reassembled it has a wonderful patchwork quality to it, as each square differs slightly in colour and painting style from its neighbour. But together they have a special kind of unity, just like the individual personalities in an organisation.

We have noticed that most participants prefer to attempt realism and so our suggestions focus on this. However, there are many styles of abstract art that we can support, it is worth bearing in mind that it is a lot more difficult to communicate an idea with abstract art. As it is like a piece of music rather than a song with lyrics.
So now you have seen just some of the possibilities don’t delay and please contact us to discuss available dates and budgets.
